Boy’s Safari Nursery Theme: Blues, Whites, and Grays

Decorating our nursery has been the most fun I’ve had decorating our home. When we found out we were having a baby boy at our gender reveal party we were SO excited! But I quickly realized I was going to be a BOY mom! I had all these ideas and plans for a girl’s nursery, but what did I want to do for my precious guy?

Boy's Safari Theme Nursery Decor

I immediately started looking all over Pinterest and Instagram for inspiration. I started shopping online for ideas from some of my favorite brands and stores. I saw so many cute ideas. How was I supposed to choose? I finally narrowed it down between two styles. A natural look with white, green, and a touch of gold or white, gray, and navy blue. I knew either way I liked having neutral colors with one main color pop. My husband preferred the navy blue color palette so that made my decision easy!

I couldn’t find one specific nursery “set” that I just loved so I started piecing things together to create our perfect nursery. While this took a lot of time, it was definitely worth it! Now we have a nursery that we love and is uniquely ours! Buy Buy Baby, Wayfair, HomeGoods, Target, Pottery Barn, Hobby Lobby, and Etsy helped us complete our perfect nursery for our sweet guy.

Nursery Furniture

The first thing we picked out was our nursery furniture. This took a LOT of searching, but we finally both agreed on the Soho Baby Hampton Nursery Furniture in Stonewash from Buy Buy Baby. You can purchase individual pieces or the entire set. We decided to purchase the entire set because we really liked each piece.

Safari Themed Boy's Nursery

The crib is a 4-in-1 convertible crib so it grows with baby and has three adjustable mattress heights! I love the neutral color of the crib, but I wanted some fun sheets with a pop of color. We have some plain navy sheets and white sheets, but these aden® by aden + anais® Denim Wash Cotton Muslin Fitted Crib Sheet in Blue are my favorite! Jack loves to look at the arrows as he falls asleep.

Safari Themed Nursery Changing Table and Dresser

The dresser has so many drawers for storage and makes for the perfect changing table! Just add the changing topper and you are all set! Everything you need for diaper changes, night time, and outfit changes are easily accessible with so much storage space! Our Colgate changing pad is comfy for Jack and super easy to clean! It looks so cute on our changing table with this Kushies changing pad cover! All of the drawers catch right before they close to help prevent little fingers getting caught!

Speaking of changing pads, thank goodness for our Bubula Diaper Pail! It’s airtight lid keeps those unpleasant smells trapped inside to keep your baby’s nursery smelling fresh and clean! We liked the gray color for our nursery but they have so many color options to choose from. It also holds a LOT of diapers so you don’t have to worry about changing out the bag every day. And speaking of the bag, you can use any trash bag so you won’t be spending extra money on specialty bags.

Safari Themed Nursery Soho Chifferobe

The chifferobe just completes the room and offers so much storage! The drawers are perfect for clothes, socks, and accessories and the shelves are great for toys and books. We absolutely love it! All of the Soho Hampton Nursery Furniture comes with hardware to attach it to the wall to prevent the furniture from tipping over.

Nursery Necessities

A must for any baby nursery is a sound machine. We selected the HoMedics MyBaby Portable Sound Machine in white. With 6 different baby sounds, volume control, and a timer, this is perfect for any room or situation. It doesn’t take up a lot of space in the nursery and is so easy to move from room to room or for travel. It is also a really great price!

I’ll be honest. Jack did not sleep in his nursery until he outgrew his bassinet in our room. I loved having him right there next to me where I could see him and put my hand on his chest to feel him breathing in the middle of the night. I know all of you mommas can relate. When he was too big for his bassinet, I was so anxious about having him in his nursery. Deep down I knew he was totally safe, but I was still nervous.

Safari Themed Nursery

We received the Owlet Smart Cam Baby Monitor as a baby gift and heard wonderful things about it. I researched SO many monitors and decided this was the best choice for us. I can not rave about it enough! The design keeps it from being a total eyesoar in the nursery and they provide covers for the wire going down the wall. This is specifically a safety feature to keep baby from being able to pull on the wire but as a bonus, it helps it blend into the wall more and not have an ugly wire hanging down!

I love having the app on my phone and the sound and camera quality is amazing! I LOVE the zoom feature and that I can do other things on my phone while still hearing it in the background. You can also purchase the smart sock with the camera to track baby’s heart rate and oxygen levels.

Nursery Baby Rocking Chair and Ottoman

Every nursery needs a comfy rocking chair and ottoman to prop your feet on while nursing and rocking baby to sleep. I wanted something comfy and pretty. This Harper Nursery Glider swivel Rocker Chair and Ottoman in flax is perfect. It is so comfortable and looks so great in the nursery. I have spent many days and nights snuggling my sweet guy in this chair.

Plush Jumbo Giraffe Safari Themed Nursery

Y’all. How much do you love this Melissa and Doug plush giraffe?! My parents bought this to have at our front door when we brought Jack home from the hospital. Her name is Sally and Jack absolutely loves her! We like to pet her and have little chats. This giraffe brings so much fun and whimsy to the room.

Elephant Play Mat Safari Themed Boys Nursery

The second I saw this elephant play mat I knew I had to have it. It is so soft and now that Jack is older, he loves playing with the elephant while getting in his tummy time. It is also really easy to clean which is always a plus.

Pottery Barn Elephant Rocker Safari Themed Nursery

Pottery Barn Elephant Rocker

Jack LOVES this elephant rocker from Pottery Barn. My parents bought this for him for Christmas and it is just so cute! It has also been a great way to let him practice balancing. He loves to rock on his Ellie!

Blue and Gray Boy's Nursery Decor

As I was selecting decor for the nursery, I knew I wanted a focal point with Jack’s name. I found this stunning wooden baby name sign on Etsy and instantly fell in love! This particular shop is no longer on Etsy, but I would encourage you to look around and find something custom to fit your design!

Baby Nursery Newborn Photos

Personalizing your nursery is a MUST! If you are currently pregnant, I highly recommend scheduling a newborn  photography session! For all of my DFW friends, Kelsey Ray Photography is AMAZING! We were in awe watching her during our session and I could not be happier with our photos. Our canvas newborn wall hangings are my favorite things in our nursery.

Safari Animal Prints Boy's Nursery Decor

I love clean and sophisticated. I would show my husband all of my ideas and while he loved it, he would keep reminding me that this is a nursery. It needs some fun and whimsy. It isn’t an adult bedroom. I knew I wanted it to be whimsical, but not juvenile. I found these ADORABLE animal prints on Etsy from Prostoroom and fell in love! I loved that the color fit my design palette and had that whimsical bubble in Navy. I had these printed at a local print shop and put them in frames from Target. I had a specific look in mind and couldn’t find the right frames for the right price. Target had these frames with a different print for a really great price! So we took out the original print, painted the frames, and put in our adorable animal prints!

Boy's Nursery Wall Decor

I absolutely love our frame wall! This wall started the week we announced we were pregnant. My sweet mother-in-law bought the Hello Little Love and For This Child I Have Prayed wall hangings from Hobby Lobby. At the time, we didn’t know if we were having a boy or a girl, but she thought they were pretty gender neutral and would be perfect. She was SO RIGHT! We absolutely love them. The animal photos on the right are photos from Jeremy’s (my hunky husband) Mimi and were hanging in his bathroom when he was a little boy.

I had SO much fun designing this nursery and it brings me so much joy every single day. I hope it brought some inspiration to you for your future little! I would love to see your nursery reveals! Leave me a link in the comments below!

Fall 2017 Target Dollar Spot Home Décor

Target Dollar Spot Fall 2017

I don’t think I have ever gone into Target without buying something that I didn’t initially intend to purchase. This has become especially hard since the Target Dollar Spot is so amazing! Seriously, their seasonal home décor is fantastic! Everything is under $5 or less and it is absolutely beautiful! I went in today for groceries and walked out with home décor for fall and I don’t regret a single purchase. I’m sure I already missed out on some other beautiful pieces, but I was pretty pleased with my selection this weekend! Here is what I found and what I paid for each piece of decor:

Thankful Wooden Cookbook Stand: $3
Target Dollar Spot Finds Fall 2017 - Cookbook Stand

How adorable is this cookbook stand? There is something about fall that makes me want to make every recipe in the world! I love experimenting with new and old recipes and I’m usually scrolling through my iPad or combing through a recipe book. This stand holds both perfectly and it sure does sit pretty all on its own. This was totally worth the $3!

Leaf Plates: $3
Target Dollar Spot Fall 2017 - Leaf Plates
If we are being totally honest, I really don’t need these leaf plates, but they were just too precious not to purchase! They look fantastic in photos and they are the perfect size to serve a treat with afternoon tea! I purchased this crème color, but they also had a lovely green pumpkin set.

Target Dollar Spot Fall 2017 - Clear Vase

Clear and Copper Vase: $5
Floral Stems: $3 per stem (3 Stems Displayed In Photo)
So let’s be honest, vases can be ridiculously expensive! That is why I was jumping up and down when I found this beauty for only $5! These floral stems were only $3 each and they look fantastic inside of the vase. This beautiful pairing was only $14!

Garland: $5 Each
I just love this garland. It just adds that perfect touch of fall to any centerpiece or table. I still can’t believe I only paid $10 for two stands!

Target Dollar Spot Fall 2017 - Pumpkins

White Pumpkins With Purple Succulents: $3 Each
I am in love with these pumpkins! Not only do the colors match my home and my Alma Matter (Go Frogs!), but they are just too creative! Target also had a few other color options, too! These stylish babies were only $3 each! The other white pumpkin with the gorgeous gold stem was not a Target Dollar Spot purchase, but it was a Target purchase from last season and I love it!

Green Plush Pumpkin: $3
I just loved the color of this plush pumpkin to break up the white in the other pumpkins.

If you love Target as much as I do, you know how quickly their items leave the Target Dollar Spot shelves! I found my goodies this weekend, but they could be gone in a flash! Have you visited Target lately? What new finds did you purchase for your lovely home?

5 Ways to Incorporate Your Wedding Day into Your Home Décor

How To Incorporate Your Wedding Day Decor Into Your Home Decor | The Sassy Southern

This post may contain affiliate links, but all opinions are my own. Please read my disclosure policy for more information.

You spend so much time, money, and energy planning your perfect wedding day. When the day finally arrives, it is over in a flash! Thankfully, you have your wedding, photos, video, and memories, but what do you do with all of the small decor details that you worked so hard to perfect? As I was planning my wedding, I knew that I would want to keep certain things from the day as a way to always remember the big moments as well as the smaller moments. Here are 5 ways I incorporated my wedding day into my home décor!

Unity Ceremony
Unity Ceremony Idea for a Christian Wedding - Home Decor

We had mixed emotions about doing a unity ceremony at our wedding. We knew we wanted to do something, but we couldn’t find something that fit us as a couple. We were familiar with some of the popular ideas like the unity candle, the sand ceremony, and the tree planting ceremony, but none of those screamed us! We had selected Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 as our wedding verse and wanted to make sure our pastor incorporated this into our ceremony. As I was looking for unity ceremony ideas on Etsy, I found this beautiful wooden board with three cords and our wedding verse! One cord symbolizes the groom, one cord symbolizes the bride, and the cord in the center symbolizes Christ. As a couple, you braid the three chords together during your ceremony to symbolize your commitment to making Christ the center of your marriage. We instantly fell in love with this idea! Not only was the concept absolutely perfect for our wedding and our relationship, but the board is absolutely beautiful! We were able to customize the look and it is now part of our home décor above our kitchen cabinets. It is something we see every day and is a constant reminder of our vows and the importance of keeping Christ at the center of our marriage.

Toasting Flutes

Wedding Decor and Home Decor

Most venues provide toasting flutes for the bride and groom on the wedding day, but I wanted to have flutes that we could use to celebrate many more firsts and celebrations in our marriage. We chose a pair of gold flutes by Lenox. They matched our wedding, but they also matched our wedding china and home décor. Not only did they look absolutely stunning in our photos and in our wedding video, but they bring me so much joy every time we use them! We just celebrated our 1-year wedding anniversary and it was so much fun toasting with the same flutes we toasted with on our wedding day. Cheers to so many more years! Have you shopped for your perfect wedding toasting flutes

Wedding Favor

Home and Wedding Day Decor

Wedding favors are a beautiful way to thank all of your guests for celebrating with you on your perfect day. But how on earth do you select the same favor for 250 people with completely different taste? The first year of our dating relationship, I was working for an event planner. At one of the events we planned, they had the Original Butt Sketch as one of the vendors. If you aren’t familiar with this concept, the artist poses you in an oh so classy stance and sketches you in under three minutes. Why is it called a butt sketch? The artist sketches you from behind! While the name might not scream classy wedding favor, it really is such a beautiful keepsake. My boyfriend (now hunky husband) and I absolutely LOVED our first sketch and I told him that night that if we got married, we would have them at our wedding. Fast-forward six years and that is exactly what we did! Instead of a traditional wedding favor, we had The Original Butt Sketch at our wedding as wedding favors for all of our guests. This was also really special for us because we had our first sketch from when were dating framed and on an easel for our guests to see as they were having their sketches done. We now have our first sketch framed above my bedside table and our wedding sketch framed above my husband’s bedside table. This was such a beautiful way for us to bring our wedding into our home décor for many years to come!

Wedding Bouquet

Wedding Day Flowers

This is definitely not a new idea, but it is a classic one! Dry your wedding bouquet and have it displayed in a vase in your home! I know there are mixed reviews on this idea, but I personally love having my bouquet displayed in my home! Every time I look at it, I’m reminded of that beautiful day. And let’s be honest, you (or your parents) spent a pretty penny on those lovely flowers, so let’s make them last, shall we? Since we left for our honeymoon the morning after our wedding, my mom took my bouquet home and hung my flowers upside down to dry out. One of my bridesmaids did the same with her wedding bouquet, but she put her flowers in a basket above her kitchen cabinet! However you decided to display your wedding flowers, drying your wedding boquet is a great way to keep part of your perfect day with you after the wedding day.

Wedding Day Photography

Well, of course, you have wedding photos in your home. That is the whole point, right? The classic shots are a beautiful reminder of your perfect day, but what about some of the other 900 photos from your day that you don’t necessarily want on the wall in your foyer, but you would love to see on a regular basis? To start, I highly recommend having a professional wedding album displaying each part of your day. We have ours displayed on our coffee table and it is a great conversation piece when you have guests over. We also had photos framed of each of us getting ready the day of the wedding. I have my husband’s photo next to my bathroom sink and he has my photo framed next to his bathroom sink. Every morning as we get ready for our day, we are reminded of the day we started our lives as husband and wife. While this is something small, it puts a smile on my face each morning.

Your wedding day will always be a day to remember, but it is really the beginning of your beautiful new life. How did you incorporate your wedding day into your home décor?
