Southern Cornbread Dressing Recipe

Dressing or stuffing? That seems to be a constant debate around the holidays. In my family, we have always had a southern cornbread dressing recipe, not stuffing! This is easily my favorite dish at Thanksgiving and Christmas! I know there are multiple ways to make dressing, but my favorite way is a savory and dry dressing compared to a sweeter moist recipe. The combination of the dressing with homemade gravy absolute perfection! I’m getting excited just thinking about it! I promise you will impress all of your holiday guests with this delicious recipe!

Cornbread Dressing

Buttermilk Cornbread Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups cornmeal
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 ¼ cup buttermilk
  • 6 tbsp butter

Other Cornbread Dressing Ingredients

  • 8 tbsp. butter
  • 2 cups celery; chopped
  • 1 large onion; chopped
  • 4 cups organic chicken stock
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3 tsp. sage
  • 1 tsp. rosemary
  • 1 tsp. thyme
  • 1 tsp. black pepper
  • 1 tsp. oregano
  • 8 pieces of dried bread broken into pieces

Let’s Get Cooking!

Mix all ingredients together for the cornbread and bake at 350ºF for 25 minutes.

While the cornbread is baking, put the 8 pieces of bread in the toaster oven at 200ºF for about 10 minutes. This will help dry the bread out, just make sure you don’t get it too crispy. If you don’t have a toaster oven, you can just let the bread sit long enough for it to dry out.

Cornbread Dressing Recipe Ingredients

Add all of the other ingredients together in a big bowl. When chopping the veggies, a Ninja Express Chop and the Clever Cutter will be lifesavers! Especially around the holidays!

Recipe Ingredients Cornbread Dressing

Crumble the cornbread. Add the cornbread and the broken bread pieces to the other ingredients. Mix well.

Add the mixture to a greased casserole dish and bake at 350ºF for 50-60 minutes. This will depend on how crispy you like your dressing. If you like a softer moist dressing, bake for about 30-40 minutes. If you are like my family and you enjoy it crispier, just watch the top to make sure you aren’t overcooking the dressing.

You should pop over to her blog and check out her amazing travel adventures! Her photos are stunning and her adventures will make you want to drop everything and jump on a plane! Her post about her wine tasting in Santorini is magical! Her love for life and travel is inspiring. Her blog is sure to add many new adventures to your bucket list! Thank you so much, Melissa, for nominating me for this award!

So, What Exactly Is A Liebster Award?

The Global Aussie outlines the award as a way for bloggers to recognize newer bloggers! This is a great way to recognize their hard work starting out as a blogger and to help them gain exposure. The award also helps connect and support the blogging community. In German, the term “Liebster” means sweetest, kindest, nicest, dearest, beloved, lovely, kind, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing, and welcome. You really can’t give a better compliment!

10 Random Facts About Me, The Sassy Southern!

  1. I told my now husband to wait three months when he first asked me out on a date. Now please don’t think I’m rude. I really liked him, but he asked me out in March and I knew that if we started dating, my finals for that semester would go out the window! Thankfully for me, he was the man for me and waited. He found out from one of my friends what time my last final ended and showed up at TCU outside of my class and asked if he could please take me to lunch. I hadn’t slept the night before and I was in a giant t-shirt and Nike shorts, but of course, I wasn’t going to say no! While we were at lunch, he told me that he would pick me up for our real date that evening. Two dates in one day? I knew I had hit the jackpot!
  2. I LOVE sweet tea. I know, southern girl loves sweet tea. Shocking! But it really is my favorite drink. In fact, when I was first coming up with names for my blog, Sweet Tea and Sass was on the list. However, I’m really glad I went with The Sassy Southern.
  3. I am currently a dental school wife! My hunky husband is in his last year of dental school and I could not be more proud of him! This has been his dream since he was five years old. He graduates this year!
  4. I was an only child for 10 years until my perfect baby brother was finally brought into my life! Y’all. I prayed specifically for a little brother for so many years and goodness did God deliver. He is seriously one of my best friends and the perfect brother. I am so thankful for him!
  5. I lived in Ireland for 4 months! I had the privilege of studying abroad during my junior year of college with one of my best friends! We lived in Dublin and traveled Europe on the weekends! It was one of the coolest experiences of my life!
  1. I am like a child at Christmas. I LOVE EVERY SECOND OF IT! I am the person who is chomping at the bit to put up my Christmas decorations, I will wait in a 2-hour line to drive through a Christmas light display, and I welcome the traffic and crowds because to me, it is the joyful hustle and bustle of the holidays.
  2. I bleed purple. For those who now think I’m a crazy person, let me explain. I graduated from TCU in Fort Worth Texas and I am so proud to be a Horned Frog. Go Frogs!
  3. I had 9 bridesmaids and they are all my forever friends. I know a lot of people think it is impossible to have more than one or two best friends, but I have to disagree. Three of my bridesmaids have been my best friends since I was a baby, three have been my best friends since I was seven, two of my bridesmaids I met in college and they instantly became my people and forever friends, and one of my bridesmaids is my sister-in-law! All of these beautiful ladies have and continue to be a constant source of love and support in my life and I can’t imagine doing life without them.
  4. I think I have the greatest family in the entire world. My immediate family, my extended family, and my in-laws and their extended families. I love all of them so much and they have all made a big impact on who I am today. I seriously hit the jackpot with my husband’s family. They have welcomed and loved me from day one and I am so grateful to be in their beautiful family.
  5. I love murder mysteries and crime shows! Please don’t misunderstand, I don’t love that there is a reason that these shows exist, but seeing how detectives investigate and find answers is fascinating to me. It is like a big puzzle of clues. My husband and I are always looking for new podcasts and shows, so if you have any favorites, please let me know!

My Liebster Award Nominations Questions Answered

1. Where was your very first vacation?
My very first vacation was to Disney World when I was three years old! This counts, right? Thankfully, my mom was all about videoing every second of our vacation and we have a giant photo album from our entire trip! I still love flipping through those photos and watching videos from that trip. We went with some very close family friends and we all still reminisce about that trip to this day. My parents have always planned amazing vacations for our family and encouraged my brother and I to take every opportunity possible to explore this beautiful world. I think Disney World was the perfect first vacation.

2. Do you prefer to fly or take a road trip?
I think this really depends on where you are going! I love a good road trip, but I do love to fly. I have definitely done my fair share of both. I think if I had to pick only one, I would probably rather fly. While I do love the adventures you can find during a road trip, I also like having more time at my destination to relax, explore, and enjoy what that city has to offer.

3. If you could take only one more trip, where would you go?
Oh my goodness this is a tough one! I think I would have to say Greece. I have dreamed of going to Greece for years and if this was my last trip, I would probably want to spend a couple of months exploring Greece! Side note, I’m super thankful this is only hypothetical because there are so many more places I want to visit!

4. Have you ever visited a place just because you saw it in a book or movie? Where?
I don’t think I have ever visited somewhere only because I saw it in a movie or read it in a book. This has definitely confirmed my reasons for wanting to visit, but I don’t think it has been the only reason.

5. What is your favorite book or series?
If I have to pick just one, I would probably say Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers. This is a book that I read every couple of years and I never get tired of reading it. It has romance, suspense, encouragement, and is a constant reminder of God’s love and faithfulness. I cry every time I read it and I love it!

6. If you could give someone $1,000,000 who would you give it to?
My mom and dad. Hands down. With no hesitation. They are two of the most loving and giving people and they deserve the world. They have sacrificed so much for my brother and me and they have always done it happily. I would LOVE to just give them 1,000,000 to live out any dream they have had, but sacrificed for our family. And knowing both of them, they would end up donating the majority of it to organizations and families in need before spending a penny on themselves.

7. Why did you start your blog?
I have always loved to cook, decorate, and try new DIY and home décor projects. I started learning how many bloggers were making a living through their blog and I was so inspired. I remember telling my parents about this in college and how amazing it would be to make a living from blogging about things I love and do every day! I put the idea aside for a couple of years and then one day, my dad brought it back up and told me he thought I should go for it. He had read an article about a blogger who was making quite a bit of money each month from their blog doing something that they loved! He and my mom both really encouraged me to get started and I’m so glad that they did! They are constantly encouraging and supporting me through this new and exciting adventure! Working on my blog brings me so much joy and I have loved getting to know so many other talented and creative bloggers!

8. When do you find time to blog?
Late at night and on the weekends! I still have a full-time job, so nights and weekends are my time! I truly love doing it, so I will realize it is 2 AM and I should probably go to bed!

9. What do you do when you have writer’s block?
Walk away. Sometimes you need to just do life to help push through writer’s block. You never know what will inspire you and get those wheels turning!

10. What is your favorite post made by you, and why?
Oh this is a tough one! I would probably have to say my post, 10 Holiday Traditions for Your First Merry Married Christmas! Christmas is my absolute favorite time of year! I married the man of my dreams in 2016 and last Christmas was our first married Christmas. We had so much fun starting new traditions together as Mr. & Mrs. These traditions are great for anyone, really! Single, newlyweds, or married for 10 years, they are a great way to enjoy and celebrate the holidays!

11. Which actor should play you in the movie about your life, and why?
Reese Witherspoon. While I realize that she is blonde and I am a brunette, I have always LOVED her as an actress and I feel like we have very similar personalities. I have loved so many of her characters and I would be honored if she played me in a movie about my life!

10 Holiday Traditions For Your First Merry Married Christmas

First Christmas Ornament

This post may contain affiliate links, but all opinions are my own. Please read my disclosure policy for more information.

Merry Christmas, friends! Happy Holidays! I absolutely LOVE this time of year! It brings so much joy to my soul. My parents have always made Christmas such a special and meaningful time in our home and I have always wanted to carry some of those traditions over to a family of my own. This will be the second Christmas that Jeremy (the hunky husband) and I are spending together as Mr. & Mrs. and I can’t wait to celebrate the traditions we started last year for our first Merry Married Christmas! Whether this is your first Christmas as Mr. & Mrs. or if you have been married for 10 years, check out our favorite holiday traditions to celebrate as a family!

10 Holiday Traditions

Attend a Candlelight Christmas Eve Service

Christmas Eve Candlelight Service

This has been one of my favorite things about Christmas since I was a little girl. Jesus truly is the reason for the season. It is so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the holidays, but we want to make sure we never forget the meaning of this beautiful time of year. Even if you don’t have a home church, find a local church with a candlelight Christmas Eve service. It is a beautiful time to slow down and really reflect on the meaning of Christmas. This is something I grew up doing and something Jeremy and I have done together since we started dating. It is, of course, part of our married Christmas traditions and is something we will continue to do with our future kiddos!

Buy Your First Christmas Tree and Christmas Decorations Together

Christmas Tree Decor
See the adorable wine glass ornaments? These are from the Mikassa Cheers collection and they match our actual wine glasses!

This is SO MUCH FUN! There are so many firsts you are celebrating as a married couple during your first year of marriage and this is definitely an exciting one! We went to one of our favorite places on earth, Target, and found an amazing deal on the most beautiful Christmas tree! Right now, Target has 20% off of their artificial Christmas Trees! If you would rather shop together for your Christmas tree at home in your PJs, you can find the one you love on Target’s website and order it to ship to your home or pick up at your local Target! If you decided to pick it up at your local Target, this is the perfect time to shop for all of your Christmas décor. Target also has some great deals on their holiday décor and lights!

Don’t forget to use your Target REDcard for an extra 5% off! That is 25% off one of those beautiful Christmas Trees! If you don’t have a Target REDcard, I HIGHLY recommend you get one now! They have a credit card and a debit card option. If you are like me and don’t like to have too many credit cards, the debit card is the perfect option! It links directly to your current checking account! The debit card and credit card give you a 5% discount on your total purchase at Target, free shipping on most items from Target.com, and extended time for returns! I also just learned that REDcard holders get early access to special events and sales. For example, all REDcard holders get early access to select Black Friday deals on Target.com! I have saved SO much money over the years with my REDcard! Apply now to start saving at Target!

Buy a Mr. & Mrs. Holiday Ornament

First Christmas Ornament

Having an ornament to establish your first married Christmas is a must! We ordered this custom ornament from TP&C Design Studio on Etsy and I am in love with our ornament. It looks so beautiful on our tree and is a beautiful reminder of our first Christmas together. This is our second Christmas as Mr. & Mrs. and I’m so excited to hang it on the tree this year!

Host Your First Holiday Dinner Party and Gift Exchange

Christmas Sangria Holiday Cocktail

If you have read my blog posts before, you probably already know how much I love to entertain! I definitely got this from my momma. I will really find any reason to entertain. If this is your first year married or your 10th, you probably have a lot of gorgeous wedding gifts that you would love to show off to your friends! I know I couldn’t wait to pull out my wedding china and stemware! This is also a great time to show off your gorgeous Christmas decorations that you have worked so hard on this season! Organize a gift exchange, plan a dinner menu and cocktail menu, and have your favorite people over for a fun night to kick off the holidays! If you could use a few extra items to help you entertain, check out my holiday gift guide for the entertainer!

Have A Decorate The Tree Party

Christmas Ornaments

This is a tradition that I brought to our marriage from my childhood. My mom is seriously the best about making everything feel special and fun, especially around the holidays. We would always have a night where our whole family would have hot chocolate, watch a Christmas movie, and decorate the Christmas tree. My dad would always hold me up so that I could put the angel on the tree. This was my job and my brother was more than happy to let me have it! This is a tradition I have always wanted to do with my family and Jeremy and I had so much fun doing this last year for our first married Christmas. We watched Elf, had hot chocolate, and decorated our beautiful Christmas tree! I’m so excited to do it again this year!

Find a Charity and Give Back

While it is easy to get caught up in the gifts and holiday events during this time of year, it is so important to never forget how important it is to bless others. Our church always does a food drive and gift drive to provide Christmas dinner and gifts for families in the community. We have so much fun shopping for these beautiful families and it brings us so much joy knowing that we are able to help put a smile on their faces on Christmas day. Another charity that we love to participate in each year is Operation Christmas Child with Samaritan’s Purse. For those who are not familiar with this charity, this is a beautiful way to share God’s love with children all around the world at Christmas time. You can assemble a shoebox and drop it off at drop-off location near you, or you can create a box online! Their website has a lot of great suggestions for what to put in the shoebox and what the kids really want and need. My school always did this when I was growing up and it was so much fun to go shopping for these beautiful children and we have loved participating in this throughout the years.

Have a Gingerbread House Decorating Contest

Gingerbread House Decorating Contest

This is a tradition we actually started when we were dating and my brother participates in this tradition with us each year. We all have our own gingerbread house and we have 1 hour to decorate our house using only the items that come in our kit. We can use any tools we can think of, but we can’t add anything to the house that doesn’t come in our box. We put on a Christmas movie and get to work! Once we are done, we take pictures of each house and label them A, B, and C. I post it on Facebook and ask our friends to leave a comment with their vote for A, B, or C. This keeps it completely anonymous to our friends to make sure there isn’t any bias. We put a time limit on the voting and then tally the votes once the Facebook voting portion of the contest ends. Once we tally the votes, we post the winning house with the winner’s name on Facebook and the winner gets bragging rights for the year. It is so much fun and a great activity to do together with our family. This is a Christmas tradition we are so excited to start with our future kids!

Look At Christmas Lights Together

Christmas Lights

This makes for a great date night and can be as inexpensive as you like! Bring some holiday treats and hot chocolate with you and drive around listening to Christmas music and looking at gorgeous Christmas light displays. If you aren’t sure where to go, Google the best Christmas light for your area. We have a couple of neighborhoods and parks that we go to every year. They are so beautiful and really put you in the Christmas spirit!

If you want to bring a little extra holiday cheer to someone, turn it into your very own Christmas light contest! Decide which house has the best lights from the night and leave them your first place prize for the most impressive Christmas light display! We made our own little award for the house that we picked and included a $15 dollar gift card to Target! We left it completely anonymous and just thanked them for bringing us so much joy through their beautiful lights display. Here is what our card says:

Thank you for making our evening Merry & Bright with your lovely Christmas lights! To thank you for bringing joy to this anointed season, we would like to award you with the Most Joyful Lights Award! We are not professional Christmas light judges, but we consider ourselves to be seasoned amateurs! We hope this gift spreads a little Christmas cheer! Merry Christmas! Luke 2:14

Disclaimer: If you decide to do this, just make sure you are cautious and following the law. Since this is their private home and property, assess the situation and make sure you can safely leave the card for them without causing alarm to the homeowners. The goal is to bless them, not make them think a suspicious person is lurking around and cause an unsafe situation.

Attend a Local Holiday Event

Gaylord ICE Christmas Activity
This is all made out of ice!

There are always so many fun Christmas events to attend, but never enough time! One of our favorite things to do each year is to go to the ICE exhibit at the Gaylord Texan. ICE is a walkthrough exhibit featuring close to 2 million pounds of ice sculptures! Each year is a different theme and it is only 9°F inside! They provide a parka for everyone to wear and there is always a giant ice slide a the end! When you leave the exhibit, there is a convenient hot chocolate bar ready for you to warm up! If you live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, I highly recommend visiting the Gaylord Texan. They have so many fun holiday activities and they go all out for their Christmas decorations. It is so much fun for the whole family!

Have A Christmas Shopping Date Day

Christmas Shopping
We LOVE going to the Nutcracker Christmas Market each year! This was us last year and Jeremy was sporting his curly mustache to support Movember!

It really is more blessed to give than to receive! I have so much fun making my list of gifts for my loved ones each year! For our first year as a married couple, we had an even larger list of gifts to give. We decided to make a full date day out of it! We started the day with a delicious brunch, need all the energy for this full day, went shopping, took a break to catch a Christmas movie, shopped some more and then ended the day with a dinner date. It was very tiring, but so much fun! We spend the following day watching Christmas movies and wrapping our presents!

Do you have a favorite Christmas or Holiday tradition with your family? Or maybe you have a charity that you volunteer for each year? I would love to hear how you celebrate the holidays each year!

Christmas Sangria Holiday Cocktail

Christmas Sangria Holiday Cocktail

This post may contain affiliate links, but all opinions are my own. Please read my disclosure policy for more information.

I LOVE sangria! If it is on the menu, I’m probably going to order it. The hubs and I had signature cocktails at our wedding and mine was a White Berry Sangria. It was so delicious! I still have people tell me how much they loved my signature cocktail! I love making delicious cocktails for dinner parties, but I really love making them around the holidays. There are just so many delicious flavors and fruits to incorporate and let’s be honest, they just look lovely on serving trays and bar carts. My favorite cocktail to make around the holidays is this apple and cranberry Christmas Sangria! It is so crisp and refreshing and is absolutely lovely in a champagne glass! It takes no time to make and will really impress all of your holiday guests!

Cranberry and Apple Sangria

Christmas Sangria Ingredients:

2 Green Apples; Chopped

2 Cups of Fresh Cranberries

½ Cup of Granulated Sugar

1 Bunch of Rosemary

1 Bottle of Moscato

1 Bottle of Sparkling Apple Cider

Sugared Cranberries - Christmas Sangria Recipe

Chop both green apples into small pieces. Add all but a few of the pieces of green apple to the bottom of your drink pitcher. You will use the other pieces for garnish.

Rinse the cranberries in a colander and immediately roll a handful into the sugar. Set aside the sugared cranberries to use for the garnish.

Add all cranberries except the sugared cranberries to the pitcher.

Christmas Sangria Recipe Cranberries

Use a muddler or wooden spoon to crush some of the fruit in the bottom of the pitcher. I crush just a few pieces of fruit, specifically the cranberries, to leave a nice flavor. I like to leave most of the fruit whole because it looks so lovely in the pitcher and in the glass.

Pour in the moscato and the sparkling apple cider. Add rosemary to the top to garnish.

Sangria Holiday Cocktail

Wet the rim of your champagne flutes with a little bit of water and roll in granulated sugar and fill with the Christmas Sangria. Also, can we just take a moment to admire these beautiful Mikasa Cheers Champagne Flutes? I’m in love with this design! I have this design for all of my bar glasses and I love that each glass has its own unique design!

Holiday Sangria Cocktail

Add a few of the sugared cranberries and apple pieces to the top of the cocktail. Garnish each glass with one piece of rosemary and enjoy!

S’mores Chocolate Chip Cookies

S'moores Chocolate Chip Cookies

This post may contain affiliate links. Please read my disclosure policy for more information.

The fall season is the start of sweater weather, the holidays, and so many fun family traditions and memories. We all have our favorite recipes to cook and bake during certain seasons and one of my favorite treats in the whole world are s’mores! They are just so delicious! However, they are very messy to make and they are only good as soon as they come off of the fire! These delicious s’mores chocolate chip cookies give you the delicious s’mores taste, without the mess AND you can keep them in your favorite cookie jar or freeze them for later! These s’mores chocolate chip cookies have quickly become a staple in our home during the fall and they are a popular request from my friends to bring to our holiday parties!

S'moores Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

If you love this GORGEOUS Threshold marble tray as much as I do, you should probably just treat your self right now and have it delivered straight to your door from Target! The incredible price will surprise you.

S’mores Chocolate Chip Cookies Ingredients:

½ Cup of Crushed Graham Crackers

2 Hershey’s Chocolate Bars

1 Cup of Mini Marshmallows

2 Sticks of Butter; Softened

1 Cup of Sugar

1 Cup of Brown Sugar

2 Large Eggs

2 Teaspoons Vanilla Extract

2 Cups All-Purpose Flour

1 Teaspoon Baking Soda

½ Teaspoon Salt

2 Cups of Semi-sweet Chocolate Chips

Let’s Get Cooking!

Heat oven to 375 °F.

In a medium mixing bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, and salt.

S'moores Cookie Ingredients

In your Kitchen Aid Mixer, mix the sugar, brown sugar, and butter on medium. Beat in the eggs and vanilla on medium. If you don’t have a Kitchen Aid stand mixer or hand mixer, you can definitely do this by hand! However, I would highly recommend purchasing a beautiful Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer and your life will be so wonderful! Okay, back to baking.

Crushed Graham Crackers S'moores Recipe

Slowly add your flour mixture while your mixer stays on low. If your flour mixture sticks to the sides of the bowl, use a spatula to push the excess flour into your mixture. Once your ingredients are combined and your blended ingredients look like cookie dough, add your crushed graham crackers and mix on low until combined. This is where my Ninja Chop comes in handy! It quickly crushes my graham crackers to my preferred consistency. This saves my hand a lot work and prevents the graham crackers from flying all over my kitchen as I break the plastic bag I’m crushing them in! It’s okay; we have all been there!

Add cookie dough to a greased cookie sheet. Can we please stop and take a moment to appreciate these beautiful gold Threshold cookie sheets from Target? They come in a set of three different sizes and they make my kitchen look so glamorous while I bake! Did I mention that they are an absolute steal and are super easy to clean? Okay, back to baking.  I like to use a 1 ½- inch cookie scoop when scooping out my cookie dough. I am in love with this beautiful gold cookie scoop from Target! It matches my gold measuring cups and gold measuring spoons! It helps keep each ball of cookie dough close to the same size so that they cook evenly. It also really makes my eyes happy while I cook.

Cook for 9 minutes at 375 °F.

Pull the cookies out of the oven and add 4-6 minimarshmallows on top. Bake for another 2-3 minutes until the marshmallows start to brown. Quick tip, don’t let the marshmallows get too brown! This will cause them to melt completely into the cookie and you don’t get the ooey-gooey marshmellowey goodness on top!

Zucchini Lasagna Recipe

Zucchini Lasagna

Zucchini Lasagna

I want to start this post by expressing how much I LOVE Italian food! It is probably my favorite cuisine. However, it is Jeremy’s (the hubs) least favorite cuisine. So we take turns on when we eat Italian food. This is a great example of what we call a compromise. Most of the dishes I love are usually on the unhealthier side of the scale and full of carbs. One of my friends told me that she had purchased a mandoline and had started replacing pasta with veggies. Obviously, this wasn’t a new concept, but something I hadn’t tried. Since we were trying to eat better, I decided to purchase a mandoline and try it for myself! We purchased this super handy Mandoline Slicer and it works really well! However, for all of my KitchenAid lovers out there like me, I have this Kitchen Aid Vegetable Sheet cutter on my Christmas list this year! The mandoline does work really well, but I would love to save the hassle and just let my beautiful KitchenAid do the work!

Zucchini Slices from Mandoline

Okay, back to the recipe. I decided to make my own version of lasagna using zucchini and my favorite spaghetti sauce! It was so easy and so delicious and we didn’t even miss the pasta! I made it for friends one night and everyone loved it! It was a definite hit! Ready to make this delicious recipe? Here is what you will need:

Zucchini Lasagna Recipe Ingredients:

4 Large Zucchini – Thinly Sliced

1 lb. Ground Beef

1 Jar of Pasta Sauce (I really like Classico)

15 oz. Low Fat Ricotta Cheese

16 oz. Shredded Mozzarella Cheese

8 oz. Grated Parmesan Cheese

Let’s Get Cooking! Recipe Directions:

Mandaline Veggie Slicer

Zucchini Slices from Mandoline

Heat the oven to 350°F. Slice the Zucchini as thinly as possible and add to a greased baking sheet. Salt the sliced zucchini and bake for 12 minutes.

Baked Zucchini Recipe

Cook the ground beef and drain the grease. Add the pasta sauce to the ground beef and bring to a boil. Lower the heat and let the sauce simmer.

Spaghetti Meat Sauce

Mix the grated parmesan, ricotta cheese, and 8 oz of the mozzarella together in a bowl.

Lasagna Cheese Mixture

In a casserole dish, take a small amount of the meat sauce and cover the bottom of the dish. Layer the half of the zucchini on top of the meat sauce. Cover the zucchini with the cheese mixture and cover with the meat sauce. Repeat this step. Cover the meat sauce with the rest of the mozzarella cheese.

5 Holiday Gifts For The Entertainer In Your Life

KitchenAid Stand Mixer Holiday Gift Guide

This post may contain affiliate links. Please read my disclosure policy for more information.

I LOVE picking out Christmas presents for my friends and family. However, it can also be very stressful. I want to make sure that I’m gifting something that they will love and probably wouldn’t have purchased on their own. As someone who loves to entertain, I’m always looking for products that will help me present a stunning meal and presentation from start to finish. Even if I’m just having people over for a game night, I want them to love every second! Here is my list of 5 Holiday Gifts for the entertainer in your life!

Copper Chef Pan

Copper Chef Pan Set

For those of you who follow my recipe posts, you probably know how much I LOVE my Copper Chef! It is perfect for weeknights when I’m just cooking for two, but it is also FANTASTIC for making larger amounts of food when I host dinner parties. I purchased the Copper Chef 5-Piece Cookware Set and Copper Copper Chef Induction Cooktop off of Amazon. The 5-Piece set comes with the 9 1/2 inch pan, Glass Lid, Fry Basket, Steam Rack, Square Fry Pan and Recipe Book. I also purchased the Copper Chef Induction Cooktop. The Induction Cooktop is extremely helpful because it keeps your stovetop available to cook other dishes on your stovetop.

Copper Chef

The Copper Chef has a stainless steel induction plate on the bottom that allows for fast and even cooking. It is also non-stick, so you don’t have to cook with oil or butter. This makes cleaning the pan a breeze and it is dishwasher safe! It is safe to use on all stovetops and you can even place it in the oven! There are multiple package options available or you can just buy the Copper Chef by itself. I already have several more products from Copper Chef on my Christmas wish list this year. The Copper Chef is an entertainer’s dream! One tip, you might want to give this gift a bit early this year so that they can use it for their holiday entertaining!

iRobot Roomba Vacuum

Roomba Vacuum Cleaner Wedding Registry

Oh the Roomba. Where do I even start! Now this gift is on the pricier side, but it is definitely a winner. We received the Roomba as a wedding present and I don’t remember how I kept my floors clean before owning the Roomba. I must give my husband the credit for this one. I was hesitant to even register for this, but I am so glad I did. Yes, it is on the pricier side, but it is TOTALLY worth it! There are multiple versions of the Roomba depending on your specific needs. For example, our Roomba has patented tangle free brushes that prevent pet and human hair from getting stuck and tangled. We don’t have any pets, but I have long hair and this is a lifesaver! You can also program the Roomba to run at certain times on certain days. So basically, you never have to think about vacuuming! You can also purchase an iRobot Virtual Wall Barrier that will keep the Roomba from bumping into certain pieces of furniture or entering a room at all! The Roomba is super gentle when it does bump a wall, so it doesn’t cause any damage, however, even if it lightly bumps our bar car, it could cause our hanging wine glasses to break. The virtual wall prevents the Roomba from getting too close to our bar cart!

iRobot Roomba Virtual Wall

Most of the Roombas also come with an app where you can schedule it to run from anywhere! The navigation system helps it maneuver around your furniture and it is low enough that it fits under most pieces of furniture in our home. This was a big deal for me, because let’s be honest, I’m not moving furniture every time I need to vacuum, so without the Roomba it is like waiting to see how much dust has collected under that piece of furniture when we move one day. This really comes in handy for entertaining because I don’t have to spend an hour vacuuming right before company arrives! I just press a button and let the Roomba do its thing while I cook or get myself ready. It honestly feels like we have a housekeeper here every day! I love having the lines in my carpet after the room has been vacuumed! Check out my full review on the Roomba here.

Mikasa Cheers Wine Glasses and Electric Wine Opener

Electric wine opener and Wine Glasses

The Mikasa Cheers Wine Glasses are a must for all of my wine lovers out there! First, they are absolutely beautiful and have four different coordinating designs per set. This adds a stylish aspect to the glasses, but it is also very helpful for being able to identify your glass during a dinner party. How many times have you lost track of which glass was yours at a dinner party? I don’t like drinking after other people, so this has always been so annoying to me! With the Mikasa Cheers Wine Glasses, you don’t have to worry! The collection includes multiple styles of glasses, so there is a glass for all of your favorite beverages! For example, I love these Mikasa Cheers Stemless Wine Glass. They are perfect a yummy cocktail or serving a beautiful custard or ice cream for dessert! They also have Mikasa Cheers Martini Glass, Mikasa Cheers Champagne Flutes, and Mikasa Cheers Beer Glasses to satisfy everyone at your party. Several of my friends have told me that they always get so excited to drink out of these glasses when they come over for a dinner party or game night!

Mikasa Cheers Red Wine Glasses

Mikasa Cheers White Wine Glasses

Now that you have the perfect glasses, it’s time to open that bottle of wine! Normal corkscrews don’t always work and let’s be honest, they have been known to make you break a sweat and nobody wants that while hosting guest. Let’s not even talk about those embarrassing times the cork broke! This Oster Electric Wine Bottle Opener makes opening a bottle of wine a breeze and also serves as pretty handy party trick! It will open 30 bottles of wine on a single charge and has a stylish charging station that is small and looks great on your countertop or bar! Let one of your guests try it out, it is a great conversation piece! This one is not as expensive and will be a very popular white elephant or secret Santa gift! They also have an Oster Cordless Wine Opener with Chiller combo pack to make opening and chilling a breeze! If you are feeling extra generous, throw in a bottle of wine, too!

KitchenAid Stand Mixer

KitchenAid Stand Mixer Holiday Gift Guide

Who doesn’t love the KitchenAid Stand Mixer? It has almost become a kitchen staple or décor piece for your countertop! With so many colors and styles to choose from, you can find the perfect Kitchen Aid Stand Mixers to fit your kitchen! When the hubs and I were registering for our wedding, I made a beeline for the KitchenAid Stand Mixers. I knew the exact color and style I wanted to register for. We decided to go with this KitchenAid Artisan Series 5-Qt. Stand Mixer with Pouring Shield In Imperial Grey and I so was thrilled when my amazing team at work purchased this for my work wedding shower!

KitchenAid Stand Mixer Imperial Grey

I’ll be honest, I was a little bit intimidated at first, but it is SO EASY to use and is a lifesaver in the kitchen! It saves me so much time and my hands and arms are so thankful for the break! The KitchenAid Spiralizer Plus Attachment with Peel, Core & Slice is currently on my Christmas list! There are so many different attachments available and to help you create recipes you never thought would be possible! While this is on the pricier side, it is the perfect gift for the chef in your life!

Keurig Coffee Maker

Keurig Coffee Maker

Coffee, iced coffee, tea, hot chocolate, apple cider, you name it, the Keurig Coffee Maker does it all! This is especially wonderful if not everyone in your home loves coffee or tea. That is definitely the case in our home. Jeremy can’t stand coffee! However, he does love hot chocolate, so the Keurig is perfect for both of us! I don’t have to make a full pot of coffee that will go to waste when I’m the only one drinking it! With so many different K-Cup options, there is something for everyone.  Keurig also has a The Keurig Rivo Cappuccino and Latte System that is definitely on my Christmas list! While this is initially an expensive purchase, think of how much money and time you will save by skipping Starbucks every day! Check out my breakdown of how much I save every year on coffee since switching to a Keurig Coffee Maker !It is also great when you have guests over. If you need a large carafe of coffee for a brunch or dinner party, you can purchase a Keurig Thermal Carafe and brew a large pot. However, if you only have one or two guests, your guests can each pick a different flavor to suit their taste! I also love the K-cup Storage Drawer that goes under your Keurig! It doesn’t take up any extra counter space and it super convenient for having your K-Cups ready to brew!

I’m always looking for new ways to entertain! What are your favorite entertaining products?

How I Save Over $1,000 Each Year By Doing One Simple Thing

Keurig Coffee Maker

This post may contain affiliate links. Please read my disclosure policy for more information.

I would like to start this post by telling all of you that I LOVE coffee. I was immediately drawn to the TV show Gilmore Girls and I think that is partly due to how much they love coffee on that show. Friends is hands down my favorite show ever and its main set is in a coffee house! Okay, you get the idea. I love coffee. It all started for me at the age of four. My Grandaddy started letting me have coffee with him when I would spend the night with my grandparents. He started out with a tiny bit of coffee and a whole lot of milk. He would gradually add more coffee each time and I very quickly grew to appreciate the delicious aroma and taste. My Daddy has always loved coffee as well, so we always had it home, too. Oddly enough, my Mom hated coffee until the last couple of years and now she is just like me and drinks it every single day.

How To Save Money

I don’t remember the first time I went to Starbucks, but I have been a Starbucks lover for many years. While their drinks are delicious, I also just love the atmosphere. It is the perfect place to meet a friend, have a date, or to go to study or work for a change of scenery. I especially love it around the holidays! After I graduated college, I had an hour commute to my new job. It was an exhausting drive and knowing that I would end that drive with a trip to Starbucks was a much-needed reward! However, my bank account started to take a major hit! I was spending SO much money during my work week and I was also hitting Starbucks on the weekends! When I finally added up how much I was spending on coffee, I wanted to cry!

Cup of Coffee from Keurig

I knew I had to make a change, but I couldn’t give coffee up. That was just out of the question. I had heard about the Keurig Coffee Maker , but I had never really considered purchasing one because they are so expensive. However, I decided it was something to look into now that I knew how much I was spending on coffee every day. However, I was worried that it would be about the same price after I had to purchase the individual K-Cup coffee pods and creamer each year. However, after I sat down and did the math and decided that purchasing the Keurig would be a wise investment and oh goodness was I right! I have owned a Keurig Coffee Maker for 4 years and I am still floored at how much I save each year. It is also so easy to use and requires very little maintenance each year!

How I Save Money

Here is a breakdown of how much I currently spend on coffee compared to what I was spending before purchasing the Keurig:

Before I purchased a Keurig, I was constantly going to Starbucks and I would, on average, spend $5 per visit. That is honestly rounding down. Most of the time I would also get something to eat. However, for the sake of this example, I’m going to round down to $5 a day. If I purchased coffee at Starbucks 365 days a year, I would spend a total of $1,825 for the year.

Let’s say I only went to Starbucks five times a week for an enter year and spent $5 on average.
Total Spent for the year: $1,300.00

Here were my expenses for the first year I purchased the Keurig:
K-Cup Coffe Pods for every day of the year: $300.00
*Rounded Up on Price
Coffee Creamer for the year: $80.00
*Rounded Up on Price
Keurig Coffee Maker: $150.00
Water filters for the Keurig: $4.41
Note: The Keurig Coffee Maker comes with 2, so you would need to purchase 4 in the first year. Keurig recommends replacing the filter every two months. This would provide 6 for the first year.

Total: $534.41
Savings: $1,290.59
*Drinking coffee every day of the year.

Expenses for every year after I purchased the Keurig:
K-Cup Coffe Pods for the year: $300.00
Coffee Creamer for the year: $80.00
6-Pack Replacement Water Filters for the Keurig: $4.41
Note: The Keurig Coffee Maker comes with 2, so you would need to purchase 4 in the first year. Keurig recommends replacing the filter every two months. This would provide 6 for the first year.

Total: $384.41
Savings: $1,440.59
*Drinking coffee every day of the year.

Drinking Coffee

Now please don’t misunderstand. I still go to Starbucks and I fully acknowledge that I wasn’t going to Starbucks every single day. However, even with me going five days a week for an entire year, which I am saddened to say I was doing easily, and more, I was spending a crazy amount of money just on coffee. Like I mentioned before, Starbucks is way more than just the coffee. It is the entire experience that I love. And let’s be honest, you can’t beat their Peppermint Mocha or Salted Caramel Mocha during the holidays and I get so excited for their holiday cups each year. I still love to meet friends for a cup of coffee or grab a cup to enjoy while I’m shopping at Target, but I’m not going every single day and my bank account loves me for it! I absolutely love my Keurig and I love how much money it saves me every year! You can find great coupons on Target’s Cartwheel app for K-Cups and places like Kohls, Costco, and Sams sell value packs of multiple flavors for great savings! For me personally, this was a necessary and exciting change for my budget!

Are you a coffee lover and Keurig owner too? I’m always looking for new K-Cups to try out! What is your favorite blend?

5 Reasons You Need This Item On Your Wedding Registry

iRobot Roomba Virtual Wall

This post may contain affiliate links. Please read my disclosure policy for more information.

My husband and I absolutely LOVED registering for our wedding. Some of our friends had told us about funny and stressful experiences that they had while registering, but we had the best time! We decided to start at Bed Bath & Beyond and then go from there. We had such a great time that we not only registered at Bed Bath & Beyond, but we also decided to register at Dillards and Target! My husband is pretty easy going and we had already discussed certain things that both of us really wanted to register for before we left for the day. However, there was one item that my husband was insistent we have on our wedding registry, an iRobot Roomba!

For those who are not familiar, a Roomba is made by iRobot and is a programmable robotic vacuum cleaner. Basically, one of the best inventions ever made! I too wanted a Roomba, but these are on the pricier side, so I wasn’t getting my hopes up that we would receive this from one of our guests. Thankfully for us, we had some of the most generous friends and family in the world and we did receive our iRobot Roomba as a wedding gift. Jeremy (the hunky husband) was like a little kid at Christmas! He could hardly wait to see it in action and I must admit, I was really excited as well. Watch below to see it in action for yourself!

After owning a Roomba for over a year, I can promise you this is a product you want to have in your home! It saves so much time and it is one less chore you have to determine who gets to complete each week after you get married! Here are my top 5 reasons you should include a Roomba on your wedding registry!

It vacuums for you.

iRobot Roomba Vacuum Cleaner

Do I need to say more? How many hours have you spent pushing and pulling a heavy vacuum cleaner? I always hated having to maneuver it around big pieces of furniture and then wanting to cry when I chipped the paint off the side of my coffee table because I rammed the vacuum cleaner into it! I also like to run it right after I cook or bake. It is perfect for coming in after you to pick up crumbs!

You can program it to run any day at any time.

iRobot Roomba

This is such a cool feature and really comes in handy. You can program the Roomba to run at a time that is convenient for you. If you don’t want to hear it running or worry that it will get in your way, just have it run while you are at work or shopping for groceries. You will love coming home to a freshly vacuumed home!

Easily keep the Roomba away from certain items in your home.

iRobot Roomba Virtual Wall

You can purchase iRobot’s Virtual Wall Barrier to keep the Roomba from going in certain rooms or to keep it from going near certain items you want to protect. For example, we have our Virtual Wall Barrier next to our bar cart. This is also really helpful at Christmas time when you don’t want the Roomba going near your Christmas tree or presents.

Certain models are specifically designed for long hair and pet hair.

Roomba

The Roomba’s tangle free technology is perfect for pet owners or if you are like me and have long hair! A few of our friends with pets have purchased the Roomba and they say it is a lifesaver when it comes to pet hair!

It charges itself!

Roomba Vacuum Cleaner Wedding Registry

Its navigation system will take it back to the docking station when it is done vacuuming and will automatically start charging. I really love this feature because I don’t have to do anything. I can schedule it to run, let it do its thing, and know that it will go back to the charger and be ready for our next cleaning appointment.

With multiple models and price points to choose from, you can easily find the Roomba that is right for you! If you are looking for the basics, The iRobot Roomba 614 might be the best choice for you. This is lower in price and doesn’t have all the bells and whistles, but it definitely gets the job done! Or, let’s say you want the works! The iRobot Roomba 980 might be more up your alley. While it is higher in price, it comes with all the bells and whistles and then some. If neither option appeals to you, there are plenty in the middle to choose from. We decided to add the iRobot Roomba 860 to our wedding registry. This particular model had the tangle free technology that prevents hair and debris clogs, it is programmable for seven days a week, and we really liked the 3-stage cleaning system on this one. Whichever iRobot Roomba you choose, it will save you time, frustration, and will always leave you with beautifully vacuumed floors!
